Cape Fur Seals Girls Academy may not be a familiar name to many, but their vision will become a reality in their inaugural season in 2022.

Namibian Youth Football officially kicked off in the year 2008. The plan was to initiate an interest in football in the Namibian youth by building a better structure that would allow us to compete with the powerhouses of Southern African Football. The only problem is that this project was not inclusive of girls and it mainly focused on development at the men’s level. Many clubs took the initiative to start their own Youth Football Academies based on boys’ football development. In response to this, the Namibian Football Association (NFA) came up with the NFA Galz & Goals Project with support from UNICEF, which is a platform to teach young girls about life skills through sport. With great success in the past, the project now aims to empower even more girls. The only problem is that there was not a dedicated club for girls’ youth soccer development. UNTIL NOW!

OVERVIEW

Cape Fur Seals Girls Academy was founded on 7 October 2020 by Hafeni Ndeitunga, who had the vision of giving girls a chance to have an equal opportunity.

The football club is the daughter club of the Ramblers Women’s Football Club.

The official kick-off is in 2022 with the age group of u7.

WHAT’S SO DIFFERENT ABOUT CAPE FUR SEALS GIRLS FOOTBALL ACADEMY?

Cape Fur Seals is the first dedicated all-girls football club in Namibia. With a 10-year plan, the Academy looks to have Namibian youth national team players by 2032 produced by the Seals.

The club will actively encourage player and parent input into the long-term development of the club. This relationship will result in the creation of the Parent Vision For Seals Board in 2024, which will consist of who will be elected “to engage in strategic initiatives that drive the long-term sustainability of the Seals and the overall advancement of youth soccer.

The board members of CAPE FUR SEALS GIRLS ACADEMY are:

HAFEN NDEITUNGA: FOUNDER AND TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

COMPETITIONS

The girls will take part in the LiquiFriut league hosted by DTS. It is a developmental league dominated by boys. The football league will give us a chance to develop quickly by competing against other teams.

We will also compete in at least three tournaments each year, which are: the Ramblers tournament, the DTS tournament, and the SKW tournament. These will give the girls a chance to play at least six games during each competition.

HOW TO JOIN GIRLS ACADEMY

If you are interested in joining the Seals, the application forms are on the website for the 2022 season. We have 25 spots open for girls between 4-7 and 8-9.

FUNDING

We are currently looking for a sponsor who has a vision for girls’ football development to help with whatever funding they can.

Funding will assist with field development, transportation, kits, and sports equipment. The assistance will contribute to the success and longevity of the club.
